2026 Outstanding Assessor Award Recipient: LuAnn Hayrynen
The Upper Peninsula Assessor’s Association is proud to recognize LuAnn Hayrynen as the recipient of the 2026 Outstanding Assessor Award. Throughout her career serving multiple communities in the western Upper Peninsula, LuAnn has demonstrated exceptional professionalism, integrity, and dedication to fair and equitable property assessment practices.
Known for her willingness to mentor and educate new assessors, LuAnn has played a significant role in strengthening the assessment profession throughout the region. Her commitment to accuracy, responsiveness to taxpayers, and ongoing pursuit of best practices has earned the respect of colleagues, local officials, and residents alike.
With years of experience and extensive knowledge of rural assessment administration, LuAnn serves as a valued resource and example for assessment professionals across both Houghton and Ontonagon Counties. Her dedication to public service and the assessment profession make her a deserving recipient of this honor.

Susan Kennedy Memorial Scholarship
Each year, the Upper Peninsula Assessors Association proudly awards one Fall School tuition scholarship in memory of Susan Kennedy, whose dedication to the assessing profession, commitment to education, and service to her colleagues left a lasting impact on our organization.
This scholarship is presented to an individual who has demonstrated a commitment to professional development and a desire to advance their knowledge within the assessment field. By supporting continuing education, we honor Susan’s legacy and her belief in the importance of learning, mentorship, and excellence in public service.
